How Far Can You Go with NO Pedaling?

Riding up Red Rocks Riding up Red Rocks

This is one of our most commonly asked questions.  We believe there should be a standardized testing procedure so people can compare apples to apples since ebike manufacturers can say anything they want to get you to buy their bicycle.

I have seen companies that tout 75-100 miles on a charge.  What does that mean?  How much did the person weigh? Were there hills? Was there wind?  Was the rider a professional cyclist?  The real question is how much did they pedal?

I personally get 50-75 miles on a charge but I am pretty athletic, not very heavy, and pedal whenever possible.  If I am riding in hilly country I am only going to get 30-40 miles on a charge.

An electric bicycle has unlimited range if the rider is pedaling constantly!  Except for the flat test, every person's results will be different.

We actually test our bikes and here are the criteria we used for the Patriot and DreamE.

175 pound rider

NO pedaling

Wind under 5 mph

50-65 degrees

Level blacktop

16.5 mph average

Patriot.

The Patriot went 22 miles.  Green light went off at 16 miles.  Yellow light began flashing at 20 miles.  At 22 miles bicycle started losing consistent power.

DreamE.

The results for the DreamE are impressive and typical for LiFePO4 batteries. The DreamE went 29 miles in 4th gear.  Green light off at 27 miles.  Yellow light off at 28 miles.  Battery shut down at 29 miles.
